In addition to medical treatment for your work-related injury, the employer’s representative will reimburse you for the expenses incurred for travel to receive medical treatment. This entitlement includes reimbursement for mileage to and from a place of medical attention that is more than 5 miles away from your home in accordance with the rate chart below, reimbursement for the actual cost of expenses for using public transportation, and reimbursement for the actual cost of reasonable overnight lodging and meals. Effective August 23, 2004, the Commission approved reimbursement for travel to a pharmacy if the round-trip distance is more than 10 miles from your home.
You should save your receipts for lodging, meals, and public transportation and submit them directly to the employer’s representative for reimbursement. It is best practice to record all eligible mileage to and from medical treatment and the pharmacy on a mileage form and submit it to the employer’s representative periodically for payment. If you are unable to secure your own transportation, contact your employer’s representative immediately to discuss other options. Failure to attend scheduled medical appointments may affect your ability to receive weekly wage loss checks.
